Who, what, where, how much does it cost?
Who
We provide a professional proofreading and editing service to authors, editorial consultants and agents, publishers and businesses of all types. Projects are emailed to us as Word documents, we proofread and edit as necessary and return the work with Track Changes marked. In this way, the author can review our proposed edits and accept them as they choose before submitting the final manuscript or document for publication, printing and distribution.
The role of a proof-reader is to scan the text meticulously to correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, to standardise style within the work and to make suggestions to improve legibility and continuity where necessary. It is not our role to alter the author's style or to make unnecessary changes to the text. The author's individual writing style is respected at all times - in each case it is different!
What
Examples of work we proof-read:
- Books: fiction and non-fiction for adults, children's books
- Synopses: normally the first two or three chapters of a book with the author's synopsis, for submission to publishers in order to ascertain their interest in publishing the book
- Manuals, guides, training and coaching material
- Theses and dissertations
- Websites
- Professional documents of all types
Where
As the work is carried out remotely, we proof-read for anyone, anywhere.
What does it cost?
The price can be at an hourly rate or at a fixed price per word count. In either case, this is agreed with the client before work commences.
